How refunds work
Shoot & Cast (Pty) Ltd · Effective 6 October 2026 · All prices in South African Rand (ZAR)
This is a plain-English summary of our Refund Policy, which is the authoritative document. Where the two differ, the Refund Policy and our Terms & Conditions apply.
What Shoot & Cast is
Shoot & Cast is an online booking platform for guided hunting and fishing experiences in South Africa. We are not the operator. Each experience is delivered by an independent, verified outfitter or charter operator. We collect payment on their behalf and remit their share to them, less our commission.
We sell services, not physical products. Nothing is shipped, so no delivery or returns policy applies. Even so, we are your single point of contact for a refund: you never have to chase the operator yourself.
What you pay
- The price shown on every listing is the full price you pay. It includes the operator's package price plus a 3.5% booking fee charged by Shoot & Cast. The fee is itemised before you pay and again on your confirmation email.
- Package prices are flat for the party size shown, not per person, unless the listing states otherwise.
- You may be able to secure a booking with a deposit of between 10% and 50% of the total price, with the balance due before the trip. The deposit amount is shown before you confirm.
- Balance due dates: no later than 3 days before a fishing experience, and 5 days before a hunting experience. Bookings confirmed inside those windows are payable in full immediately.
- Trophy fees, additional animals, taxidermy, meat processing, transport, ammunition and anything not listed as included are arranged and paid directly with the operator.
How you pay
Card payments are processed by Paystack, an authorised payment service provider. We do not see or store your card details. All charges, and all refunds, are in South African Rand (ZAR).
You pay Shoot & Cast, never the operator directly. We keep our booking fee and commission and pay the operator their share. We may pay the operator their share before your trip, including deposits they need to hold your dates, which is why a refund can take time to recover.
If you cancel
You can request to cancel a confirmed booking from your dashboard, or by emailing us with your booking reference. Cancellation takes effect on the day we receive your notice. What you get back depends on how much notice you give:
| Notice before the experience starts | Refund of what you paid (excluding the booking fee) |
|---|---|
| More than 30 days | 100% |
| 15 to 30 days | 50% |
| 7 to 14 days | 25% |
| Less than 7 days, or you do not attend | No refund |
The 3.5% booking fee is not refundable, because it has already been spent on processing your payment. Non-refundable third-party costs booked at your request, such as permits, licences, travel and accommodation, are also not refundable where we cannot recover them. Neither is any part of the experience already delivered.
Instead of cancelling, you can ask us to reschedule. We will do our best to accommodate it, subject to the operator's availability and any extra cost the operator charges, which is for your account.
If the operator cancels
If an operator cancels, or does not deliver a material part of what you booked, for any reason other than something outside everyone's control or a breach by you, you choose: we find you a comparable replacement at no extra cost, or you get a full refund of what you paid for the affected services, including the booking fee on those services.
If Shoot & Cast cancels your booking, you get everything back, booking fee included. Where part of the experience went ahead, a refund is worked out pro rata on the part that did not.
Weather and events outside anyone's control
Severe weather, dangerous sea conditions, fire, flood, load-shedding, civil unrest, strikes, government action, and the serious illness or death of an operator all count as events outside anyone's control. Where one of these stops your trip, we first try to reschedule it to a date that suits you within 90 days, at no penalty.
If rescheduling is not possible or you would rather not, you can ask for a refund and we will handle the recovery from the operator. Nobody is liable for knock-on costs such as flights or time off work.
Hunting: animals that are not harvested
Every hunting listing carries an Operator Terms for Package section, which you can read before you book. It sets out that operator's own rules for what happens if an animal included in your package is not harvested, covering refunds, credits, substitutions, return hunts, missed shots and wounded animals.
Those terms are set and honoured by the operator. Shoot & Cast does not fund or guarantee a refund, credit or rescheduled hunt simply because an included animal was not harvested. Please read that section before paying, as outfitters differ.
Fishing: no guaranteed catch
A fishing booking buys the charter and the guided experience, not a guaranteed catch. Weather, sea conditions and fish movement are outside anyone's control. Refunds are not available solely because no fish, or no particular species, were caught, unless the listing says otherwise. Normal cancellation terms still apply.
How to ask, and how long it takes
Email info@shootandcast.co.za with your full name, booking reference, the date of the experience and your reason, or start the request from your booking in the dashboard.
- We acknowledge your request within 2 business days.
- We tell you the outcome within 7 business days.
- Approved refunds are paid within 14 business days of approval, to your original payment method or a bank account you nominate in writing.
- Where we have already paid the operator, we notify them within 5 business days, keep you posted on recovery, and pay anything recovered over to you within 7 business days of receiving it. Money we are still holding is refunded without waiting for that.
Please come to us before raising a chargeback with your bank. We can usually resolve it faster, and we will contest a chargeback raised in breach of the policy.
